YES! Let's talk about setting yourself up for success! We all strive to have a great week. We all strive to have an amazing day. We are always striving to feel significant and we come to this alignment when we do things that fulfill our desired goals we set for ourselves.
So, how are you doing this week? Are you on track? Are you getting things done? Do you feel accomplished or do you feel you're still struggling or you haven't done diddly!? Or, do you feel no matter what you're doing, you're not doing what you're supposed to be doing... That you're not fulfilling your soul's purpose?
WOW! Okay! Maybe that's a little too much for us to process all at once. Let's first talk about YOU! Let's get down to where it all starts. Your wellbeing. Your mental state. Your mindset.
If your mindset is not where it should be. If it's not in a positive state. If you don't feel good about yourself. If you don't feel love, then no matter what you set yourself to accomplish; you're not going to feel fulfilled and significant. You need to create an environment, a framework from which you can start your day on a positive and healthy mindset.
When I was going through some very difficult times in my life, I had to create a morning ritual that supported me throughout the day. I had to wake up earlier and do things that helped me build-up my confidence and set my mindset to a positive state. About three years ago my brother sent me a YouTube video about The Miracle Morning by Hal Elrod. He thought it was a network marketing video, but it was about setting the first hour of your day to yourself. In looking back, this couldn't have come at a better time, because that was the year I had contemplated on taking my life. I was under so much pressure and stress to succeed in my business that when things weren't looking so good; the only thing that kept me alive and mentally strong was doing my morning ritual.
Every morning I would start by meditating for ten minutes. Then I would go jogging for two miles. When I got home, I would pull out my journal and write for about 15 minutes. I would write affirmation and gratitude statements. Doing this really built my energy up. Sometimes I'd write for almost 30 minutes. I would then watch a couple of motivational YouTube videos that showed these beautiful places, and luxurious houses and cars. There were even scenes of couples having a great time and enjoying themselves. You could see the happiness and the love they shared. I watched these videos as visualization aids. I had created a playlist on my YouTube account and watch them almost every day. -- sometimes more than twice a day! I made sure my morning ritual aligned with my energy, and so at times I felt compelled to read a few pages from a book I was reading. Sometimes it was a couple of pages from the Bible. Then I would shower, get dressed and then make myself a healthy smoothie filled with fresh fruit, vegetablesa and almond milk. Or, I would make this really healthy avocado, peanut butter, and banana sandwich. I know what you're thinking: Yuck! It probably sounds gross to you, but I will tell you that even my kids like it.
Performing this morning ritual has many benefits:
- Mediating first thing in the morning helps relax you and clear the mind -- especially if you're feeling anxious when you first wake up
- It raises your heart rate and helps you bring fresh oxygen into your lungs when you set aside time to exercise
- Helps your body to release endorphins, the feel-good hormone, and dopamine, the hormone that makes you feel good after you've accomplished a task or scored in a game
- Sets your mindset to feeling positive about the day ahead of you -- you feel you can accomplish anything!
- Helps you focus by visualizing on the experiences you want in your life -- being focused is important!
- Writing in your journal positive affirmations and gratitude statements help you realize the good things already in your life
- Writing goals down in your journal makes it more real. They say thoughts and ideas put on paper are more likely to manifest, so don't be afraid to write! Otherwise, they are just thoughts and wishes
Performing this morning ritual every day is a tool to help you overcome the mental garbage you feed your mind throughout the day. It's probably habit by now, especially if you've gone through a major loss or setback in your life. Reprogramning your mind is absolutely necessary for you to move forward in a healthy and productive way. If you research rituals of successful people, you'll find that they start their day by taking care of themselves first; either exercising, meditating or reading. It's not rushing to take care of their kids, spouse or someone else. Just visualize the flight attendant telling you to put your oxygen mask on first, then whoever you want to help next.
So, what are you waiting for? Plan your Miracle Morning and set your alarm to wake-up at least half-an-hour earlier. Make sure you set your alarm so you have to get up to turn it off. Have a glass of water next to your bed. Drink it finished before you do anything. Try this for at least a month and let me know how it's improved your life.
